Top Agents: Opportunity Chasers
Lives of Real Estate Magazine (LORE), Winter 2013
Once Ben Caballero, CMP, MIRM, president of HomesUSA.com in Dallas, sees a problem, he fixes it. When, at age 21, he used a rental service to find a home and was unhappy with its handling of the transaction, he started his own rental service. “I ran that for a few years, got to know people in the apartment business and then partnered with a custom builder who built apartments,” says Caballero, who was ranked No. 1 individual salesperson in both transaction sides and volume for the 2013 REAL Trends/Wall Street Journal The Thousand, an accomplishment not achieved since REAL Trends has kept a record of those accomplishments. It was his experience working with builders that eventually spurred Caballero to build the automated system that’s so successful today. Another problem solved.
Getting Started
It’s no surprise that Caballero decided to pursue a career in real estate. Both of his parents were real estate brokers. In high school, Caballero worked in their office answering phones and greeting visitors. He received his Texas real estate broker’s license at age 21. After working with a custom apartment builder for a few years, Caballero started his own home-building business, which he operated until, the says, “Interest rates were up to 17.4 percent. I figured the market was volatile, so I took some time off.”
